Fante Wikimedians connect virtually at Wiki Indaba 2024

Wiki Indaba is a major gathering for Wikimedia communities across Africa, creating space to share experiences, discuss movement challenges and build relationships across countries and language communities. Fante Wikimedians participated virtually in the 2024 edition, connecting local work in Ghana with wider continental conversations.

Virtual participation made it possible for community members to follow sessions on programme design, partnerships, governance, community growth and the future of African Wikimedia work. It also offered a chance to learn from organisers facing similar questions about volunteer support, local-language contribution and sustainable community structures.

Why this matters

For a growing community, conference participation is valuable because it brings new ideas into local planning. Discussions at regional gatherings can influence how training is organised, how newcomers are supported, how impact is documented and how partnerships are approached.

Participation also helps the community contribute its own perspective. Fante Wikimedians bring experience from building an indigenous-language Wikipedia, organising volunteer-led programmes and working to document culture and heritage.
